Gargano, the only mountain entirely in Puglia, was originally an island, then to the mainland by a progressive accumulation of alluvial deposits, especially Candelaro the river, the northern coastal strip, low and sandy, home to the lake with the adjacent coastal Varano Lake Hvar. The massive, composed mainly of limestone, culminating in the 1056 m of Mount Calvo (significant is the name of this mountain, the bare and rocky slopes), has a flashy karst, whose most interesting features are the numerous caves, inhabited since prehistoric times.

the description given so thoroughly fails to include a part from Wikipedia:
"Almost a year and a half ago, exactly 24 July 2007, the Gargano Promontory was set on fire by unknown kids ... the other days of the mass-media have informed us that the proceedings were terminated for lack of evidence ... ."!!!
